No more Freightliners from Portland, OR, plant

About 750 workers who built Freightliner trucks at a plant in Portland, OR, are now unemployed.

The last Freightliner rolled off the assembly line on Thursday, March 28, and the company claims a slump in sales led to the layoffs, according to media reports.

Company officials said in a press release that the company will continue to manufacture its Western Star trucks in Portland, but Freightliner production is moving to plants in North Carolina and Mexico.

The company said the 740-acre Mexico plant could employ as many as 1,600 workers.

You know why mexico might have 1600 workers?

That's the rest of the prodution of the Portland plant when it closes for good. This is just the first phase. Not smart to get all the eggs in one basket until they see if it works well.

See ya Portland....
